Eulogy read at the funeral service

Chris was born to Lily and Leonard Ansell on 3rd August 1944. She never knew her dad as he was a casualty of war in 1945. In his memory she kept the surname Ansell when her mum remarried years later. Most of her childhood was spent in Ilford and Chadwell Heath in Essex until the early sixty´s when her family moved to Canvey Island . She had dreamt of becoming an Air Hostess, which would fulfil her urge to travel but would have to wait until she was 25 due to the age limitations. She began commuting from Canvey to the Chadwell Heath area where she worked at Motorgear and Engineering where her stepfather was also employed. She was supervisor in a very early computer room and had the responsibility of looking after this and her eight staff. She was always the one you looked to for good advice. The computer at that time was the size of a small lorry as opposed to an equivalent type today that could possibly be put in your pocket. It was on one of her long train journeys every day that she was spotted by a tall dark (Oh ok then rapidly balding) none-the-less handsome guy who was lucky enough to spend the next 39 years with her. Two adorable girls were born to them in 1974 and 1976 and the Leo Mum was devoted to her two cubs. She enrolled them in dance classes and subsequently spent hours and hours taking them to exams, festivals, curling their hair and sewing sequins on their costumes. This would eventually pay off since her girls, through Mums encouragement, went on to become professional dancers, which meant Chris got to travel to different parts of the world to visit them. In 2001, Chris and Art retired to Spain where they could enjoy the sunny weather and a swimming pool, which she had only ever dreamt of. One pool was visited by a long-term guest, a Muskovi duck that would end up staying for about 2 years before flying off to a new home. Chris was down to earth, genuine, bright and funny. She always had a book going and especially enjoyed thrillers. She liked swimming but didn´t like to get her hair wet. She would choose any desert that had banana´s in it, especially banana split, her special favourite…then again maybe a Profitorol. At a tea party she would hope to see vol-au-vents stuffed with prawns. She was a mean baker and her rock cakes and autumn trifle will be talked about for years to come. She liked the BeeGees, Barry Manilow, Des O´ Connor and Take That. She enjoyed Emmerdale, Eastenders and of course, Corrie. Her best friend for over 30 years was Maur who she thought the world of. She loved animals, café con leche with friends and above all loved her family. With a positive spirit and great sense of humour she will be remembered to all who knew her with a smile on her face… She was so very special.
